What is CBT?
What is
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach which helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors contributing to emotional distress. CBT is goal-oriented and structured, focusing on practical strategies to manage challenges and improve overall mental well-being.
How does CBT work?
CBT is a structured, time-limited therapy focusing on the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviors. A trained therapist works with the individual to identify negative or distorted thinking patterns, develop coping strategies and implement healthier behaviors. Techniques often include cognitive restructuring (challenging unhelpful thoughts), behavioral activation, relaxation exercises and problem-solving skills. Many individuals begin seeing improvements in just a few sessions.
