Celebrating the Groundbreaking for Angeline’s Wing for Children & Families

Our agency celebrated the successful groundbreaking and blessing ceremony for Angeline’s Wing for Children & Families on October 28, 2024. The event, hosted at 1601 Military Rd in Sioux City, br



ought together key supporters and community members to celebrate the start of the new facility dedicated to specialized youth mental health services.

 

Speakers included Chris McGowen, President of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce; Amy Bloch, LISW, Executive Director of Catholic Charities; Sarah Kleber, President of the MRHD Board of Directors; and Bishop R. Walker Nickless of the Diocese of Sioux City, who offered a heartfelt blessing over the project. Dignitaries in attendance included Iowa State Representative J.D. Scholten, Kolby DeWitt from Senator Joni Ernst office and Wes Fopma representing U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra.

 

Executive Director Amy Bloch, LISW, spoke about the importance of this milestone for Catholic Charities and the Siouxland community. “Angeline’s Wing will be a place of hope for many young people and their families,” she remarked. “We are profoundly grateful for the support of our Board, staff, the Diocese, MRHD, many donors, and community partners. Together, we are creating a space for healing to provide our youth with brighter futures.”

 

Named in honor of Angeline Thom of Ashton, IA, whose generous estate bequest helped launch the project, Angeline’s Wing is made possible by many benefactors, including matching funds from the Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) Economic Development Match Grant. Donors who played a crucial role in bringing this vision to life were recognized during the event for their contributions.

 

Designed by RML Architects, Angeline’s Wing is a 7,200-square-foot addition, which will be a welcoming and supportive environment for youth and families. H&R Construction is leading the building project with these new spaces:

  • A welcoming entrance and expanded waiting area

  • Offices for specialized youth mental health therapists

  • A dedicated psychiatrist suite

  • Therapy rooms designed for age-appropriate play, youth and art therapy

  • A Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) room

  • Group therapy spaces for family and peer support


Since its founding in 1943, Catholic Charities has remained steadfast in serving the most vulnerable, particularly children. As mental health needs continue to grow in Siouxland and beyond, Catholic Charities reaffirms its commitment to providing life-changing care to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
